Trinidad Firm Set to Supply 300 Prefabricated Homes to St. Vincent

Government Secures 300 Prefabricated Homes for Post-Beryl Recovery

As part of its ongoing recovery and reconstruction efforts following Hurricane Beryl, the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has procured approximately 300 prefabricated homes. Minister of Finance, Hon. Camillo Gonsalves, announced on Monday that an advance team from the Trinidad-based company contracted to supply the homes will arrive in the country today, April 25. Their mission includes conducting site assessments and training local builders and contractors.

“These homes will begin arriving in batches of fifty,” Minister Gonsalves stated. “We’ve signed a contract for 300 units, which will be delivered in six batches of fifty.”

He highlighted that the prefabricated houses can be assembled in just a few days and will be distributed across communities throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines where residents were most affected.

Over the past three months, the government has spent approximately EC$14 million on housing initiatives. These include building new homes, repairing damaged structures, and distributing building materials to residents in need.

“Minister Brewster has been overseeing nearly EC$5 million in monthly spending to support those impacted by Hurricane Beryl and those vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters,” said Gonsalves, commending the Minister’s efforts as “phenomenal.”
